The hills are covered in Golden Rod. They are also covered in married people. And they are arguing. They are really going at it. Or maybe that’s just my wife and I. We are the only ones arguing. We argue long and hard.
And then we stop very suddenly.
“Look at the deer bounce around in those flowers,” my wife says. This is what the end of a long fight sounds like.
The college kids are back and we drive around town like we are on college kid safari and watch them stumble around in in herds. We met in college. We did other stuff in college too. I didn’t really notice the Golden Rod back then.
